The Crossroads Still Matters.
Joplin’s identity as the “Crossroads of America” began long before today’s interstate system.
Later this month, that history will take center stage as the Jefferson Highway Association brings its Crossroads of America Centennial Celebration to Joplin, September 19–22, commemorating the historic convergence of the Jefferson Highway and Route 66.
But there is a bigger story here.
The crossroads still matters.
Today, Joplin and Southwest Missouri remain strategically positioned at the intersection of I-44 and I-49, connecting our region to major markets across the Midwest and beyond.
For businesses evaluating where to locate, expand or invest, transportation access is more than a line on a map.
It can influence logistics, distribution, manufacturing, access to suppliers and customers, workforce connectivity and long-term operating strategy.
That strategic location is one part of a much larger story:
Infrastructure. Workforce. Available sites. Business incentives. Quality of life. Access to markets.
Together, these elements help create the SW Missouri Business Advantage.
Our new Strategic Location Advantage graphic is designed to illustrate one piece of that story—and we’ll be using it as part of our continuing conversation about what makes Southwest Missouri an attractive place to do business.
The Crossroads of America may have started with the highways of another era.
Its commercial significance continues today.
